Day 1 1/2 – Sleepless in Zurich

So it’s four in the morning and we just finished / posted a review (our first) of this boarding house on Trip Advisor. We haven’t slept much, if at all tonight because of the noise coming from the first floor directly below us. Suffice it to say that we’re not happy campers here. There’s a bar below us that we knew about, but the noise has actually increased since it closed at midnight. There are a couple of cool things about the place though like the nice hardwood floors and the fact that they kept the original heat exchanger unit pictured below. I’m thinking that flu exhaust from a first floor stove circulated through it to heat the room years ago. Anyway, we’re just waiting at this point to catch a tram to train station for our trip through the alps to Milan.

Day one – Zurich

So after an eleven hour flight from LAX, we’re here in Zurich. I was wrong about the cost of a Starbuck’s coffee. It wasn’t twelve dollars, it was only ten. Anyway, we’re hanging out this evening at the first floor of our pension (boarding house with shared bathroom). The first floor happened to be a bar. Yippee! There is a guy here drinking a beer, fooling with his phone, and he has a big old ugly dog at his feet. This is apparently ok since it looks like the bartender has brought over a dog dish filled with water.
It seems that everyone younger than about thirty speaks at least three languages. This is good for us uni-linguals since English is always one of them. Without it I think we would never have found our room which is about ten miles from the airport.
Anyway, we can’t spend much time here as we catch a train first thing in the morning, but all the people we’ve seen are all polite and well dressed. More to come.
Ciao

Day Zero – California

Traveling light once again and on the way to Europe. The attached photo shows just how light Carry-on only – the best way to travel!
We’ll land in Zurich sometime tomorrow on a snowy and frozen runway. There we’ll verify that a plain coffee costs twelve dollars before we take a train through the Swiss Alps to Milan. Meanwhile, we’re hanging out in the SMF terminal sipping on a seven dollar draft. This little flight will take us to LAX where we go through yet another radiation treatment before we fly non-stop to Zurich. No worries though, it should be over in an instant if our Rx sleeping pills do their thing.
OK, done for now. Gotta quit before I start slurring my texting. Besides, I need to check up on Jess who’s across the way in one of those terminal stores – the only place where the prices can be 75 percent off but still be twice the cost of Macy’s.

Disneyland in December

13 of us survived Disneyland for five days straight!  Townsends, Clevengers, Rotheray and Hannas.  The place will surely never be the same!  Here we all are on day one just 30-seconds after the gate opened.  What a handsome group if I don’t mind saying so!

I don’t know if it’s this way with all families, but by the time everyone downloaded their point-n-shooters, cell phones, and the DSLR I packed around EVERY SINGLE DAY, Jess had 2764 photos and three hours of video to post-process at the end of the trip.  wowza!  Anyway, this is the trailer of the full feature (which is 20 minutes long!) she put together using a bunch of fav’s.  Hope you enjoy.

And guess what?  It snows on Main Street and in front of It’s a Small World during the Christmas season twice each evening for five minutes.  Now THAT’S imagineering!

San Francisco Bay Sailing

So, we’re just a little bit behind on our blogging :(  But back in September, we chartered a sailboat from Club Natique for five days on the bay which was simply fantastic.  Here are a few photos of the trip and at the end is an awesome little video to check out.

Curtis & Korena

We recently had the great pleasure of photographing the wedding of Curtis and Korena of Sacramento.  Curtis and Korena are just an incredibly sweet couple, and because of it, there was no end to the great photo opportunities we had.

Here’s Korena with her flower girls from above prior to the ceremony.

And here they are just a few minutes before the ceremony (with lots of family watching from above).  Curtis waiting, and Korena coming down the stairs behind him.  It was a wonderful thing to see.

We just love how touching the “first look” can be.  And, these guys were incredible.

Outside near the Sacramento River Delta.

You two were a joy to photograph!  And thank you both for putting up with the heat we had that morning.

Here’s the Hanna and Co. team in action: (L-R) Jessica, Brian, Lionel, and Chris behind the camera.

This wedding was not only fun and remarkably beautiful, but it was a record breaker too, with its 11 bridesmaids and 11 groomsmen!  What a sight that was.  Thank you both, we hope you guys enjoy the photos and live long and happy lives together.

Love, Chris and Jessica

(special thanks to Lionel, our new assistant)

Dr. Lensink M.D.

Recently we photographed Redding’s Dr. Lensink and his staff for an up-coming promotional campaign.  Here’s Dr Lensink and staff Beverly, Robin, and Deborah hard at work!

Then we headed home to photograph the family.  Here’s the Lensink family (L-R Dan, Maurene, Mariele, and Gerrit) preparing for the family Thanksgiving diner last August.  You can’t get too early a head-start when there’s turkey involved – especially when the turkey needs a bit of expert surgery.

And what back yard would be complete without a red worm compost bin?

Here’s Mariel giving dad a free volleyball lesson.

You may have seen this photo used in an ad in Redding’s Enjoy Magazine.

Thank you Lensink Family!  We love you guys!
